Learn how to create fun, engaging Instagram Stories

With content overload sweeping the nation, it’s getting harder and harder to grab the attention of our target audience across all social media platforms. So, what’s the solution? Video! Video has been coming for the number one spot since 2015, with the introduction of Facebook Live, Instagram video, Snapchat, Periscope, and more.

For a long time now, video has been the best way to grab an audience’s attention and visually tell a story– sometimes without even using words.

Now, in 2017, more and more brands are looking for a way to connect with their audience and tell the story of their brand. Since videographers can be expensive, companies are creating new and innovative ways to create videos without all the cost and production. Oftentimes, this means utilizing the social media platforms people are already hanging out on.

Today we’re going to talk about how you can use Instagram Stories to capture your audience’s attention! Let’s get started.

What is Instagram Stories?

Stories are a collection of pictures and videos (up to 10 seconds) that last only 24 hours. Stories is also how you go live on the platform. There are lots of different filters, stickers, and tools that can edit the story and make it fun. You can either take the video or photo directly in the app or swipe up to choose something you have taken within the last 24 hours.

Some people aren’t so sure about using Stories as part of their strategy, especially considering they disappear after a day. Wouldn’t it be wiser to simply post to the Instagram feed, where content lives forever? The truth is with Instagram’s new algorithm, your audience may not be seeing everything that you post. With Stories, you will be at the top of their screen, which means you’re top of mind.

Plus, it’s a little more exclusive. Everyone can see your public Instagram profile. But, not everyone can see your Stories. That is limited to your followers. And, Stories allow you to post more often. Frequent posting on your feed may seem spammy, but when you post frequent Stories, people are expecting that.

But, it’s important that you don’t come off as overly promotional. Don’t use stories to continually pitch, or put links one right after another. You have to balance your Stories.

How to use Instagram Stories

There are many ways to use Stories. But the main objective is to share something entertaining, educational, engaging, and that will set you as the expert. You’re telling a story, sharing your mission and values,

You could create subgroups, potentially VIP clients or team members, and send Stories directly to them.

If you have an upcoming event, use Stories to create a little hype! Start posting 24 hours before the event with behind the scenes footage and other information.

Share what an average day looks like at your business. Have team members introduce themselves and share a little bit about what they do.

Do product testing and show how it’s made and how it works.

When people get started on Instagram, they often just think of posting pictures. But you can do so much more with the social media platform. Mix it up. Post a picture, take a 10-second video snippet, use tools within Stories, like boomerang, rewind, drawing, stickers, and filters. Be creative! What will your audience be interested in seeing?

You need to have a purpose behind your posts and stories. It can be a broad goal, but nonetheless, you need to have a reason for posting something.
